ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - The Utah Board of Regents has approved a 4 percent tuition hike for public colleges and universities.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1rMFDUZ) the board Friday approved the smallest statewide tuition increase in over a decade.

It also voted to allow the University of Utah, Utah State University and Snow College to raise tuition by up to 2 percent.

Commissioner of Higher Education David Buhler said more state dollars from the Legislature this year will ease the financial burden on students.

Undergraduate students paying in-state tuition will owe about $380 more at the University of Utah, $290 more at Utah State University and an extra $170 at Snow.

Students will see tuition bills rise by about $200 at Southern Utah University and about $115 at Salt Lake Community College.
