SALINA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have charged a 48-year-old man with driving while intoxicated after his car rear-ended a minivan on a suburban Syracuse road, injuring six family members.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the van was stopped in traffic waiting to make a left turn into the family’s driveway in the town of Salina (suh-LY’-nuh) when Andrew Damico of Liverpool slammed into the vehicle around 7:40 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies say the 21-year-old man driving the van and five relatives were taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment of minor head and neck injuries. The injured passengers included two adults in their 50s, two 7-year-olds and a three-year-old.
Damico was uninjured.
Police say Damico was also charged with aggravated DWI for having a blood-alcohol content of nearly three times the legal limit of .08 percent.
