CARRBORO, N.C. (AP) - The Orange County Human Relations Commission is hosting a forum to focus on the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
The forum is planned for Sunday at the Carrboro Century Center. The program moderator is Gene Nichol, founder of the UNC Center for Civil Rights and director of the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity.
Participants include civil rights attorney Al McSurely, Sen. Valerie Foushee and former N.C. A&T State University student John “Blackfeather” Jeffries.
The participants are discussing whether equal justice under the law has been achieved since the Civil Rights Act was passed.
