CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A Rock Springs lawmaker says he will sponsor a bill to reverse the changes made to the state superintendent of public instruction office.
The GOP-controlled Legislature and Republican Gov. Matt Mead enacted a law last year that stripped the superintendent of control over the state Department of Education. The change came in the middle of Superintendent Cindy Hill’s four-year term.
The agency is now run by a director appointed by the governor. Hill remains in office but with far fewer duties.
Republican Rep. Stephen Watt tells the Casper Star-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1hn9LzO ) that voters across the state have asked him to try to repeal the new law.
The Legislature convenes on Feb. 10.
Since this is a budget session, proposed bills must pass a two-thirds vote before they can be fully considered.
