If you plan to go to Chicago’s Michelin-starred restaurant Alinea, think twice before bringing your children.
“Tbl brings 8mo.Old. It cries. Diners mad. Tell ppl no kids? Subject diners 2crying? Ppl take infants 2 plays? Concerts? Hate saying no,but…” Mr. Achatz tweeted. He followed that with a picture of two prepared fish heads, captioning it, “Definitely not baby food….”
Alinea costs patrons $250 just to get on a waiting list, and a couple can spend more than $1,000 for the experience.
“I could hear it crying in the kitchen,” the chef told ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “We want people to come and enjoy and experience Alinea for what it is. But we also have to be cognizant of the other 80 people that came in to experience Alinea that night.”
Twitter users, including some parents, rallied in support of Mr. Achatz.
“An 8mo baby doesn’t belong in a fine dining restaurant. I have 2 little kids, so I know!” one wrote.
Another tweeted, “If I paid $1,000 for ur tasting menu & had 2 listen 2 a baby crying whole time, I’d ask for a refund.”
