PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The former Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education chairman has formally joined the race for Providence mayor, saying he will focus on “returning potential” to the city.
Democrat Lorne Adrain (AY’-dren) launched his candidacy on Monday. He says he will work to rebuild the economy, improve schools and “build a safer and more vibrant community.”
The East Side resident is a managing director at the wealth management firm Ballentine Partners. He has never held public office.
City Council President Michael Solomon formally entered the race last week, joining former Water Supply Board Chairman Brett Smiley and former Housing Court Judge Jorge Elorza on the Democratic side. Psychiatrist Daniel Harrop is in the race as a Republican.
Current Mayor Angel Taveras is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.
