ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia state Senate has passed a bill meant to help ex-offenders re-enter society and find jobs.
Senate Bill 365 passed in a 53-0 vote on Wednesday. The proposed legislation, sponsored by Republican Sen. Jesse Stone, of Waynesboro, proposes that the state Department of Corrections and Board of Corrections play a larger role in educational, vocational, social and behavioral programs that convicts participate in after being released from prison.
The bill calls for non-violent offenders to complete a Treatment Completion Certificate program, and would also require review hearings for juvenile offenders who are placed into foster care.

The bill now goes to the House for consideration.
