TOWNSEND, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police have charged a man with burglary after troopers say a police dog tracked his scent from the crime scene to his home.
It happened last week at Appoquinimink Pediatrics in Townsend. Troopers responded to an alarm at the practice, and found that a door had been kicked in.
Officers found footprints in the snow around the business, and a police dog tracked the scent, leading troopers to a home.
Authorities say when officers told a resident he was being detained, he pushed a trooper down some steps. Troopers say the police dog ran toward the man, and the dog and trooper were able to take the man into custody.
Nineteen-year-old Charles Dumire of Townsend was charged with burglary, assault on a law enforcement canine, and other offenses.
