PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’re investigating the murder-suicide of a married couple who lived near the western shore of Lake Champlain in northern New York.
Police in the city of Plattsburgh say in a news release that a newspaper carrier called 911 after finding a note on the door of a home reporting a murder-suicide. Officers found 61-year-old Ann Cashman dead with gunshot wounds in a bedroom shortly after 5 a.m. Monday.
Police say a note inside the home directed officers to a marina parking lot on the city’s waterfront. There, they found 63-year-old Wayne Cashman lying dead with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound near his pickup truck.
Plattsburgh is near the Canadian border, 140 miles north of Albany.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
