A man working under a tour bus at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Virginia, died Thursday after the support structure failed, causing the vehicle to crush him.
The U.S. Park Police told Washington’s WTOP-FM that the apparatus supporting the bus collapsed at around 5 p.m.
The police did not offer any theories as to why the structure failed. Unnamed sources told Washington’s WTTG-TV that the worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement on social media, Wolf Trap said that “there was an accident involving a member of the community at Wolf Trap National Park today, tragically resulting in a loss of life. Out of respect, tonight’s show has been canceled.”
The deceased was not publicly identified by the U.S. Park Police or by Wolf Trap officials.
The show that was canceled featured British musical acts Adam Ant, Haircut 100 and Squeeze.
Squeeze put out its own statement on social media, saying it’s “deeply saddened and shocked by an incident that occurred at the venue earlier today, which resulted in the loss of a life. … We will work with the promoter and venue regarding the possibility of rescheduling the show and will communicate further information to ticket holders as soon as it is available. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic event.”
