Colleges push back on Charlie Kirk look-alike contests a year after his death

Several major universities are condemning Charlie Kirk look-alike contests among their students on the one-year mark of his assassination.

The University of South Carolina said it had no knowledge of any such contests and confirmed they don’t have the school’s backing.

“We have no record of any registered student organization planning such an event. No university resources will be used to support this,” according to an X post from the University of South Carolina.

Georgetown University likewise denounced the contests after Fox News reported that the idea for the competition had been floated on the social media platform Fizz.

“We have seen no activity on campus related to these posts and Georgetown is not aware of any student organization hosting or planning such an event. We take these anonymous posts seriously and condemn their language as deeply inconsistent with our values,” according to a statement from Georgetown.

Kirk was assassinated on Utah Valley University’s campus last year on Sept. 10. His killing ignited a debate over free speech on campuses, with some who celebrated his death facing repercussions.
