OPINION:
It’s the economy, again.
Tim Constantine and David Bozell look at whether Republicans are now the ones out of touch, as Democrats borrow a page from the 1992 playbook. They weigh the $5,000 dividend President Trump floated in Dallas, whether the GOP has acted on it, and what it means for November.
These candidates that I’m hearing from are reporting that people have legit concerns about their economic well-being. Gas prices are still too darn high. Utility prices are still too darn high. Unless you’re over 40, you can’t scrape enough by to buy your first home.
I love what Donald Trump said in Dallas a few weeks back about the $5,000 dividend. Where are the Republicans on that? Why hasn’t that been echoed? I know it might cause deficit concerns, but for God’s sake, it’s our money anyway. If the government is flush with cash, then give it back. Show the fruits of the labor.
