A convicted District sex offender pleaded guilty Monday to an escape last year from the Baltimore halfway house where he was being kept.

Lamont Warren, 46, pleaded guilty to escape from custody, and faces up to five years in prison on that charge, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland said.

On May 22, 2025, Warren was transferred from a Pennsylvania prison to a Volunteers of America residential re-entry center in Baltimore while serving a five-year sentence for sex-abuse crimes, federal prosecutors said.

Warren was supposed to serve the rest of his term in the Baltimore center’s community housing, and was also supposed to register as a sex offender within three days of his transfer there. A day after his transfer, staff found Warren under the effects of an unknown drug and law enforcement found drugs on his person, federal prosecutors said.

Instead of meeting with his case worker at the request of center staff, Warren refused and left the facility, removing his GPS monitoring device in the parking lot. Warren also failed to register as a sex offender prior to the escape.

Warren spent about a month on the lam before being found and apprehended by authorities in the District of Columbia on June 25, 2025.

Federal prosecutors did not say when Warren is due to be sentenced.
