Hall of Famer Deion Sanders said the idea that he offered critics $50,000 if they would keep quiet about him for a year was a joke.
His assertion came after his videographer made the claim on a livestream.
“I would never offer a man money,” Sanders, who is the University of Colorado’s football coach, said Tuesday, as reported by ESPN. “I don’t give a darn what you say about me. That was really a joke about someone prospering off of your name and your brand.”

The videographer, Christopher “Uncle” Neely, who runs a YouTube channel associated with Sanders, otherwise known as Coach Prime, said on the “BuffBoys Live” stream Monday that “for the most part, the people that attack him wouldn’t be making the money they were making if he wasn’t here to attack.”
Mr. Neely added, “He told some of them, ’Hey man, let’s just do this. I give you $50,000 to not mention my name for a year.’ And ain’t nobody took the deal yet. … And you love talking about this man so much, and you make so much talking of this man that you turned the deal down.”
The Buffaloes have lost five straight. Their latest loss came Saturday at Oklahoma State in a 57-24 shellacking to fall to 2-5.
Sanders took over as Colorado’s coach in 2023 after a stellar career as a cornerback at Florida State and various NFL teams, landing him in the college and pro football halls of fame.
