Social Security’s last Wednesday payments of October arrive this week, with some retirees eligible to receive up to $5,181.

Most beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of the month will receive their October payments Wednesday, Oct. 28, the fourth Wednesday of the month. The deposits cover benefits for September.

The deposits are the last of October’s three Wednesday payments for retirement, disability and survivor benefits.

Supplemental Security Income recipients will also receive their November payment early, Friday, Oct. 30, because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday. Beneficiaries who began receiving benefits before May 1997, or who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, were paid Oct. 2.

The $5,181 figure is the maximum monthly retirement benefit in 2026. It goes only to workers who delayed claiming until age 70 and earned at or above the taxable wage cap for at least 35 years.

That is more than double the average retired-worker benefit of $2,088.79 in September, according to the Social Security Administration.

Those born between the 1st and 10th are generally paid on the second Wednesday of the month, while those born between the 11th and 20th receive their benefits on the third Wednesday, according to the Social Security Administration’s payment calendar.
