Grammy Award-winning singer Chris Brown avoided avoided prison time Monday after pleading guilty to attacking a music producer with a tequila bottle at a London nightclub in 2023.
A British court sentenced Brown, 37, to eight months in prison, suspended for a year, after he pleaded guilty to a count of affray for the attack on the dance floor of Tape, a private nightclub in London’s high-end Mayfair neighborhood.
Video played in court showed Brown being pulled away from the victim, former friend Abraham Diaw.

“The repeated use of a glass bottle in that way, especially aimed at the head, was plainly dangerous. It carried the risk of delivering a more serious injury than was ultimately sustained,” Judge Tony Baumgartner said in Southwark Crown Court.
Brown has apologized for the attack. He was cheered outside the court by fans.
He left the United Kingdom after the 2023 brawl, but he was arrested in May 2025 at a Manchester hotel after flying to the city for a concert.
Brown has a documented history of physical violence and legal entanglements going back several years. In February 2009, the then-19-year-old assaulted former girlfriend Rihanna inside a vehicle. He pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault and served probation through 2015.
Brown and his entourage were involved in a brawl with the rapper Drake at a New York nightclub in June 2012, injuring multiple people.
Mr. Brown has won two R&B Grammys — for F.A.M.E. in 2012 and 11:11 (Deluxe) in 2025.
