Washington Capitals defenseman Vincent Desharnais will miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing an appendectomy this week, the team announced Friday.
Desharnais was off to an electric start after joining the Capitals in free agency this offseason. He led the team with a +9 plus-minus through nine games.
Washington’s blue line is thin behind him. Fellow defenseman Rasmus Sandin is still recovering from an ACL injury suffered in April. Matt Roy returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing two weeks with a lower-body injury.
