After a lengthy search and more than five years since the last James Bond film, casting for the next 007 in the long-running spy franchise could be coming to a close.

Sources tell Variety that final screen tests for Amazon MGM Studios’ next Bond will end within the next week.

Actors Callum Turner and Jack Lowden appear to still be in the mix for the Bond role, according to the Variety source.

“Dune” director Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the next Bond movie, but Amazon has not rolled out a timeline for when fans can expect to see it or when the next 007 actor will be revealed.

Amazon has remained mum on the subject, simply posting a statement on the 007 site in May that “the search for the next James Bond is underway.”

“While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right,” the statement continued.

In February 2025, Amazon purchased the rights to James Bond from longtime holder Eon Productions, helmed by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

The last Bond movie, “No Time to Die,” was released in 2021. It was the last production to involve Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming’s spy, a role Mr. Craig had played since 2006’s “Casino Royale.”
