The leading Democratic Senate super PAC is releasing its first ad in Mississippi in this election cycle — a $1.2 million campaign to unseat Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, the super PAC announced Tuesday.

The Senate Majority PAC’s ad buy underscores the party’s increasing confidence in wins in traditional GOP strongholds. The ads aim to boost Democratic nominee Scott Colom, a district attorney, by painting Ms. Hyde-Smith as a “do-nothing” incumbent.

The 30-second ad will run on TV stations statewide through Election Day, alongside an additional digital program, the PAC said.

It casts Ms. Hyde-Smith as an “in it for herself” senator who will cost voters.

“Senate Majority PAC has been watching this race closely, and it is clear Colom is running a competitive race that has put Hyde-Smith on her heels,” Lauren French, the super PAC’s spokesperson, said in a statement.

The Washington Times has reached out to Mr. Colom’s campaign for comment.

In the final stretch of campaigning two weeks before Election Day, Democrats are growing confident they can make inroads in Republican states to win control of the Senate.

Democrats need a net gain of four seats to flip the upper chamber’s majority in their favor.

Buoyed by increasingly secure outlooks for Democratic candidates in states like North Carolina and Georgia, where the super PAC canceled its spending and pulled one week of planned spending, it is reallocating massive resources toward flipping unexpected red-state targets.

The super PAC injected millions into a statewide television and digital ad blitz to back Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton in Kansas and launched a dedicated affiliate super PAC called Texas Forever to oppose Republican Ken Paxton in the race against Democrat James Talarico.

President Trump won Mississippi by 23 percentage points in 2024; a Democrat has not won a Senate race in the state since 1982, nor has one been elected statewide since 2015.

Supported by Mr. Trump, Ms. Hyde-Smith is running for her second full term after she was appointed to the Senate in 2018, won a special election that November and won a full term in 2020 by 10 points.

Her campaign chided the Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer-aligned PAC for not advertising earlier.

“It took Chuck Schumer and his Super PACs thirteen months to run a single ad for Scott Colom,” campaign spokesperson Nathan Calvert said in a statement. “Chuck knows what Mississippians know, Scott Colom is too liberal, supports transgender surgeries for children, men in women’s restrooms and locker rooms, open borders, and higher taxes. Team Cindy is confident that voters will reject this radical agenda at the ballot box on November 3rd.”

The ad comes as Mr. Colom’s campaign jumped on an interview clip when Ms. Hyde-Smith was asked about the high price of beef and said, “You have so many proteins to choose from.”

“Pick another protein?” the now-viral campaign with 2 million X views says, “Shiiii — I’d rather pick another senator instead.”
