Two women died in California Friday after colliding with each other while skydiving and getting their parachutes entangled.

The two women, whose names are being withheld while their next-of-kin are notified, were “experienced skydivers,” participating in an event held around 11:45 a.m. local time by Skydive Elsinore, based out of Lake Elsinore, California, roughly 59 miles southeast of Los Angeles, the company said on social media.

Skydive Elsinore co-owner Josh Hall, who witnessed the incident, told the Orange County Register that the two were part of a group of 20 women who jumped from a plane at around 12,500 feet up in the air above the Lake Elsinore airport.

At an altitude of about 150 feet, one of the two glided in to make her final approach. The other woman involved, who was above her then, made her final approach, having not seen the first woman, and the two collided, Mr. Hall told the Orange County Register.

The two women were taken to a local hospital with critical injuries after hitting the ground and were ultimately pronounced dead there, Skydive Elsinore said.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the incident, according to The New York Times.
