The film is the first in a planned two-part series, and once part two is released, the entire project will cost an estimated $420 million.

The movies have been in the works since May 2017.

“Ramayana” features well-known Indian actors, including Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi.

Earlier this year, Mr. Kapoor was featured on the Time 100, a list of the most influential people in the world.

In a positive review in The National, critic Ankit Ojha wrote that “crafted as a classic revenge tragedy, it uses every weapon in its arsenal to deliver a spectacular cinematic experience without relying on its audience’s religious reverence for the source material.”

In a more mixed review for IGN, Siddhant Adlakha wrote that the film’s “depiction of the mythical Rama is simply too boring to root for.”
