A recent Siena University poll found that 67% of New Yorkers believe the state is going in the wrong direction because of the unbearably high cost of living.

In a normal world, this development would inspire hope that the Empire State would turn red later this year, starting with a new Republican governor and state legislature. Yet in the insane world of New York politics, such an outcome is far from a sure thing.

As a prominent New York City building supply business owner recently told me, “New York — both the city and state — are like a heroin addict. They need to hit rock bottom before they admit there’s a problem.”

With insanely high taxes, wasteful spending and pathetically soft-on-crime, woke policies that have entrenched themselves in state politics for decades, New Yorkers hopefully will find themselves sitting at rock bottom in November.

Maybe then they will turn to the naloxone that is the Republican Party to run their state.

I know my beautiful state of Florida could use some relief from New York’s mass exodus.
