OPINION:
Former First Lady Jill Biden is making the rounds of morning talk shows to promote her new book, “View from the East Wing: A Memoir.” A better title would have been “How I Covered Up My Husband’s Mental Decline to Maintain My Power.”
One of Mrs. Biden’s less credible claims is that when she saw her husband’s deer-in-the-headlights performance at the 2024 debate with President Trump, she thought he was having a stroke.
And what caring wife who believed that her husband was having a medical emergency wouldn’t render first aid by taking him to a Waffle House?
What really concerned Mrs. Biden about her husband’s debate performance was that the rest of the country was finally seeing what White House insiders saw every day: an elderly man in serious mental decline. Dr. Jill and her clique spent four years covering it up to maintain their power.
Of course, even before the notorious debate performance, the country caught glimpses of Mr. Biden’s decline, including his wandering away from a group of leaders on a foreign trip, tripping on stage, falling up a flight of stairs, being led away from a White House Easter egg roll by an aide in a bunny costume and trying to shake hands with people who weren’t there.
The book is brimming with fantasy and fiction. For instance, Mrs. Biden’s insistence that, despite the fact that President Joe Biden ran on a promise not to pardon his son Hunter Biden, he had no choice.
She insists the former first couple knew that when old meanie Mr. Trump got in, Hunter Biden would be targeted. But the younger Mr. Biden was prosecuted by his father’s Justice Department and indicted by grand juries in liberal California and Delaware.
Democrats are furious about both the book’s content and its timing. As we move toward a crucial midterm election, the Democratic Party is anxious to get voters to forget the mistakes of the past under Mr. and Mrs. Biden.
Many believe that if Mr. Biden had gotten out of the race sooner, Democrats would have ended up with a better candidate than former Vice President Kamala Harris, known for her confusing sentence structure and refusal to draw any distinction from her ex-boss.
Look for “The View from The East Wing: A Memoir” in the lame excuses section of your local bookstore.
