OPINION:
The debate continues over what to do with Iran’s frozen assets, but there is a path that protects U.S. interests and honors American sacrifice.
Unfreeze the funds only long enough to seize them, and then redirect every lawful dollar to those who have already borne the costs of defending this nation.
Rather than risk releasing billions of dollars that could ultimately empower a hostile regime, the United States should move to confiscate those assets and dedicate them to the men and women who have worn the uniform, stood the watch and paid the price.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent should be tasked with structuring this transfer so it is transparent, legally sound and targeted exclusively toward veteran and first‑responder support.
Imagine billions of dollars flowing not to Tehran, but rather to organizations that actually heal, rebuild and restore American lives — groups that provide housing for Gold Star families, prosthetics for the severely wounded, mental health support and long‑term care for injured law enforcement officers and service members.
If these funds are to move at all, let them move in a way that honors sacrifice rather than rewarding aggression. Our veterans, our law enforcement heroes and the families of the fallen have earned that priority many times over.
