Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a former co-host of ABC’s “The View” and Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” will serve as a guest host on “CBS Mornings” next week.
Her appearance from Monday-Wednesday is part of a series of on-air tryouts as CBS News’ new Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss looks to revamp its morning programming.
Ms. Weiss is reportedly looking into Ms. Hasselbeck as a possible addition to the show, joining current anchors Gayle King and Nate Burleson.
Ms. Hasselbeck, a contestant on the second season of “Survivor” who is married to former NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, will not appear during hard news or political segments — instead focusing on “Talk of the Table” discussions covering parenting, pop culture and entertainment, according to People.
The guest spot fills the co-hosting vacancy left by Tony Dokoupil, who moved to anchor “CBS Evening News” under Ms. Weiss’ direction.
“CBS Mornings” has been struggling in ratings, averaging about 1.69 million viewers compared to ABC’s “Good Morning America,” which draws about 2.7 million.
Other guest hosts are expected throughout the summer, including “Inside Edition’s” Eva Pilgrim and Norah O’Donnell, as the network searches for a permanent third host.
