“Some men see things as they are and ask, ‘Why?’ I dream things that never were and ask, ‘Why not?’”

I could not help but think of this legendary George Bernard Shaw quote when I read President Trump’s July 1 Truth Social post proclaiming that, “for the first time ever,” the Republican Party will hold a midterm convention in September in Dallas.

Given that the president has been ramping up his rhetoric about communism being “the biggest threat facing America in the last 250 years,” I would like to see another unprecedented event: a midterm debate between Mr. Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Mr. Trump is the iconic face of capitalism, and Mr. Mamdani is the face of modern-day communism.

A recent Heartland poll found that 53% of voters ages 18 to 39 want a democratic socialist to win the next presidential election. So I think it is imperative that Mr. Trump — the standard-bearer for the rugged individualism of capitalism if there ever was one — put his amazing rhetorical skills on display and wipe out this “warmth of collectivism” threat infecting the young of our country.

No, we have never had a midterm presidential debate before, but as the president said, this is the biggest threat our country has ever faced. So why not?
