OPINION:
Here we go again: Cal Thomas criticizes President Trump for his language and for mocking a rogues’ list of people from the far left (“Trump’s insulting, embarrassing White House Correspondents’ Association dinner performance,” Web, July 27).
In his recent speech, Mr. Trump critiqued Jane Fonda, who went to North Vietnam and fraternized with the enemy during the Vietnam War while thousands of our troops were getting wounded and killed. He also needled Bette Midler and Bruce Springsteen, two other “beautiful people” in Hollywood and the entertainment world who love to criticize the U.S. capitalist system and defend authoritarian, communist regimes.
These celebrities have made millions of dollars not because of inventions or services that benefit society, but simply because they have a talent for acting or singing and are happy to accept the money and enjoy a lifestyle that more than 99% of Americans can only dream of.
But they are wrong.
Some left-wing politicians here are more dangerous to the U.S. than Iran, China and Russia combined because they are undermining our way of life and government right now, from the inside. Just like Hollywood, these politicians love to lecture Americans about our supposed sins from our founding, and then do everything they can to destroy the American way of life: confiscatory taxes, open borders, the fiction of man-made climate change and its attendant war on fossil fuels, and more.
I do not agree with everything Mr. Trump does, but thank God he won the 2024 election. We experienced the worst president this country has seen in Joseph R. Biden, a man in his own category when it comes to the destruction he wrought on America.
I know Mr. Thomas would prefer to have Ward Cleaver as commander in chief, but President Trump is trying to clean up the mess left by Mr. Biden, so if he gets profane or is not always “presidential” enough, please, Mr. Thomas, just get over it.
