Jared Leto accused of criminal sexual conduct by four women

Actor and musician Jared Leto has been accused of criminal sexual conduct by four women in a new BBC documentary, “Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret,” which aired Wednesday. In total, 10 women spoke to the BBC for the film, nine of whom said they were sharing their accounts publicly for the first time, according to CBS News, which reported on the documentary via its BBC partnership.

One woman said Mr. Leto sexually assaulted her in a motel bathroom when she was 17. A second said the Oscar winner had sex with her in California when she was 17 — conduct that would be classified in the state as unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. A third woman alleged Mr. Leto threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19 and alone with him in a hotel room, and a fourth accused him of making repeated sexually explicit phone calls to her at age 16 and suggesting on one occasion that they have sex.

The women say the alleged encounters took place between 2002 and 2016, when Mr. Leto, now 54, was in his 30s and 40s.

Two men who formerly worked with Mr. Leto’s band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, told the BBC that staff members were uncomfortable with the way he interacted with teenage girls, alleging he sometimes invited them backstage or to the house where the band was recording.

The BBC said its reporting process included speaking with friends and family whom a number of the women had told about the alleged encounters at the time, and that, in some cases, it reviewed photographs and messages the women said supported their accounts, according to Variety. 

Mr. Leto denied the allegations through a representative. “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life,” he said in the statement, which characterized the claims as categorically false. According to CBS News, no criminal charges have been filed against him.

The BBC documentary follows an earlier round of allegations. In June 2025, nine women accused Mr. Leto of inappropriate behavior in a report published by Air Mail, after Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz publicly alleged on social media that Mr. Leto had assaulted her when she was 17. Mr. Leto’s representative denied those accusations at the time as well, calling them demonstrably false.

WME represents Mr. Leto for film and television; Thirty Seconds to Mars, the band he fronts, is represented by CAA for touring. Mr. Leto most recently appeared in “Masters of the Universe,” which opened in theaters in June.
