OPINION:
Nicaragua’s 80-year-old communist dictator, Daniel Ortega, announced his country would no longer hold elections. He did this to ensure that none of his pesky political opponents would ever come to power.
Republicans, conservatives, MAGAs in America look at that and go, holy cow, what a tyrant. Democrats and their supporters look at that and go, hmm, how do we do that here?
Today’s Democrats are a radical bunch.
From “who needs Congress, I’ve got a pen and a phone,” to “dead man walking, just use the autopen,” the last couple of Democrat presidents, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, have in just a few years done what the communists of Soviet Union days only dared dream. Not only are open socialists serving in politics under the banner of “Democrat,” but with all this open embrace of Democratic Socialists of America ideology, and the subsequent wins of DSA-supported primary candidates — again, under the banner of Democrat — it won’t be but a blink before Americans of patriotic, constitutional perspectives long for the good ol’ days when Democrats only pretended to be progressives.
It’s not that Democrats and their agendas to destroy America from within and partner with globalists from without have changed much over the last couple of decades. One need only look to the party’s last few platforms and votes — out with God, in with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — to see that’s true. It’s more than that Democrats are finally shedding their masks and their cloaks and cheerfully applauding the socialism. They used to run from the label. Now they campaign on it.
They no longer fear losing office over an accusation of socialism.
And wait for it, wait for it.
The same quiet nature the Democrat Party has held all the while hungering for socialism is now being turned toward communism and Marxism.
“Nicaragua’s President Ortega says no more elections, extending his 20-year rule,” NPR wrote.
“Nicaragua’s congress announces ‘work plan’ to suspend elections,” The Guardian wrote.
“Nicaragua’s Ortega says ‘never again’ for elections after two decades in power,” Reuters wrote.
And from Ortega’s own mouth — this: “[There] won’t be any more elections here for them to try to seize the government and seize power,” he said, The Hill reported, during a rally in which he referenced the 47th anniversary of the Sandinistas’ revolution.
“The days when parties backed by the Yankees and the Somocistas would return to power are over — never again,” Ortega added, in reference to America and those who supported the U.S.-supported dictator Anastasio Somoza.
As U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, Ortega’s comments show his true colors — that of an “authoritarian.”
But all the Democrats in America go: What? Why?
This is the party that opposes the SAVE America Act, the President Trump-pushed means of making sure illegal immigrants and dead people don’t vote in U.S. elections — an idea that’s supported by a vast majority of Americans. This is the party that fights against the return of Election Day and for the ongoing expansion of the day into a week into several weeks into months. This is the party that resists calls to return to paper ballots — the one method that protects best against electronic election interference.
This is the party that wants open borders, the wider the better, and that simultaneously screams that requirements of proof of citizenship as a condition of voting are racist, discriminatory and unconstitutional. This is the party that wants to do away with the Electoral College; this is the party that thrust aside their own voters’ wills to choose Kamala Harris for president in 2024 — to pick Troy Jackson to replace Graham Platner for a Maine Senate seat in 2026.
Election? Voters? Eh. Meh.
Democrats would never say it out loud.
But they whisper it, they think it, they ponder it wistfully, they dream about it — if they only could do what Ortega just did, then they’d happily lead America down a path of authoritarianism and tyranny, too. They’d just call it something different, like saving the republic.
