Priscilla Presley’s son, Navarone Garibaldi, is defending his decision to launch a GoFundMe campaign for a pizza business rather than seek financial assistance from his famous mother, news outlets report.
Mr. Garibaldi, 37, set up the fundraiser on Friday seeking $5,500 to purchase an industrial pizza oven for an “affordable organic pizza” venture he intends to operate from his Los Angeles driveway.
After facing backlash from critics, including one who characterized him as “extremely privileged,” Mr. Garibaldi took to Instagram to explain that he also has a budget and financial obligations.
“Haters gonna hate … and I’m sure I’ll have to explain this many more times to ignorant people who think I should ‘ask my mom’ or that I have money. … YEAH, I also have a lot of bills, I also have a budget,” Mr. Garibaldi posted on Instagram.
Mr. Garibaldi told TMZ that his mother “loves the idea” but that he can’t “ask for money for every whimsical idea I have or we both would be broke.”
He is the son of Elvis Presley’s ex-wife and Brazilian producer Marco Garibaldi, and the younger half-brother of the late Lisa Marie Presley.
Mr. Garibaldi said he expects his mother would visit the driveway operation once it is up and running.
