OPINION:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the once-darling of the Democratic Socialists of America, has now found herself being pushed from the socialist pack, deemed too soft for the Democratic Socialists of America’s Liberation Caucus. The Liberation Caucus, a block within the DSA, adheres to an even more radical ideology than typical DSA loons, one that favors Marxist-Leninist-Maoist leanings.
Just when you thought the Democrat Party couldn’t spiral down more.
This is grab your popcorn, enjoy the show kind of Democrat Party infighting. And just think, if Ocasio-Cortez were to finally get the boot, oh happy day, happy day, and if that boot actually came from within the ranks of her own fan base of fringe leftists — and for the crime of being too moderate, no less — well now, that’d create an entirely new category of Delicious Irony.
From Fox News: “DSA slammed Ocasio-Cortez as an ‘opportunist’ and condemned her vote to defend Israel’s right to exist and for not holding firm as an anti-Zionist. ‘In short, it was determined that she had failed to meet conditions concerning Palestine solidarity,’ the statement said. After withdrawing a conditional endorsement of the ‘Squad’ Democrat in 2024, DSA’s National Political Committee ‘determined’ that Ocasio-Cortez hosted a public panel with an alleged Zionist organization — the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.”
Moreover, the group faulted her for joining with Democrats to support Israel’s right to defend itself; for failing to defend the left’s “defund the police” campaign as vociferously as she should; and for calling the 2020 woke movement “crazy.”
One can only imagine the titterings and twitterings within Ocasio-Cortez’s brain trust right now. “Should we arrange an on-camera visit with Hamas in Gaza?” “My God, someone get her a keffiyeh and an LGBTQ rainbow T-shirt — stat.”
This all came about because Ocasio-Cortez has been a whispered candidate for the Democrat Party’s pick for president in 2028. And if not president, then Senate. Of course, she hasn’t announced a run for either office; she’s been basically basking in the limelight of fame that’s generated by an adoring media that enables her to play the coy and coquettish part of “a politician who simply has zero ambitions but to serve the good citizens of her” — wait, cut, take two, make that — “who simply has zero ambitions but to proudly serve the good citizens, yada yada, yada and doodle-doo.” That’s a wrap!
Apparently, Americans aren’t the only ones to notice Ocasio-Cortez is more of an actress playing the part of a politician than she is an actual politician.
The un-Americans at the DSA Liberation Caucus called her a “dilettante.” And then some.
“She has dismissed the mass radicalization around policing and abolition as part of the supposed excesses of ‘Woke 1,’ seeking to reduce the historic Black-led uprising of 2020 to an embarrassing political phase,” the DSA Liberation Caucus said.
“Ironically, her first electoral victory came in the heat of ‘Woke 1,’ where she trafficked in the language of abolition,” the DSA Liberation Caucus continued. “Now that she feels that she no longer needs it, she condemns it. This is the action of an opportunist dilettante, devoid of any principles whatsoever, not a socialist.”
Talk about juicy.
What’s happening to the Democrat Party, with all its splits and divisions and internal turmoil and power-plays for power, is nothing short of spectacular. And each new drama brings the next level of lunatic fringe — and un-American voice.
Democrats as a party during John F. Kennedy days still believed in serving their country. Democrats as a party during Bill Clinton days still believed in keeping the economy chugging for all Americans. Democrats as a party during Barack Obama and Joe Biden days believed primarily in destroying the foundations of America while simultaneously opening borders to the most unsavory of types so that legal citizens and law-abiding members of the public would be overrun with crime and chaos — and turn to the government for help, and in so doing, grow the government. Enter socialists. Enter big-mouth, lying, deceiving, entitlement-minded socialists.
But socialism is only a short hop from communism. And communism is to Marxism is to Leninism is to Maoism is to collectivism.
And now the New Democrat Party has arrived.
