Disney has set Ryan Gosling’s “Ghost Rider” movie for July 28, 2028, making it the third Marvel Studios release on the calendar that year, Variety reported. “Black Panther 3” is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2028, while an untitled “X-Men” film will open first, on May 5, 2028.

The dates were among a wave of release updates Disney issued following D23 over the weekend.

Mr. Gosling’s casting was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in July, when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige introduced the actor during the studio’s Hall H panel. Mr. Gosling responded to the crowd’s reaction with visible surprise, saying, “Wow, is this really happening?”

“Ghost Rider” is directed by Shawn Levy and written by Jonathan Tropper, who previously collaborated with Mr. Gosling and Mr. Levy on “Star Wars: Starfighter.” Mr. Gosling takes over the role of the Spirit of Vengeance from Nicolas Cage, who played the character in two films for Sony released in 2007 and 2011.

The new “Ghost Rider” film will be the 42nd movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wedged between the “X-Men” reboot and “Black Panther 3” on Marvel’s 2028 slate. Marvel Studios has not released three films in a single year since 2025, when “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Thunderbolts” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” all hit theaters.

Also part of the schedule shuffle: an untitled Marvel film is now dated for Nov. 9, 2029, having previously been listed only as an untitled Disney release. Pixar’s “Ghost Market,” inspired by Asian myths of markets where the living and dead interact, is set for March 10, 2028, while “Coco 2” arrives Nov. 21, 2029. A live-action remake of “Tangled” is scheduled for March 31, 2028, and the animated film “Clay” follows on Nov. 22, 2028.
