OPINION:
If you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything. That is what comes to mind as I listen to Democrats and legacy media pundits.
The choice of Democratic candidates and their vetting process are off-base. This means that, out of desperation, the Democratic establishment has removed any consideration of integrity, experience, moral compass, clarity, etc. But all voters should be concerned about the inclusion of communist ideology in these candidates’ political platforms.
It is heartbreaking to think about all the military service members who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars to fight communism only to have it be embraced by Democratic Party leadership.
Based on polling, it seems that most Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) supporters have secondary degrees, so why are they suffering from a form of “confirmation bias”? I learned about this in college. It causes us to seek information that reinforces our existing beliefs or expectations while ignoring facts that contradict them.
The result can be poor choices or “groupthink,” in which people unquestioningly agree with one another rather than questioning others.
How could voters and leaders embrace something that has proven to be a failure everywhere it has been implemented? This is an example of our failing education systems, and it appears that Democratic voters are just running in a circle, trying to find their identity.
Socialism is communism; attempts to separate them are impossible, but the Democrats are trying to make voters believe otherwise. Voters must realize that these candidates are wealthy and have access to private security and healthcare, so their campaign pledges are not based on their own experiences or needs.
Nor have they offered any examples of addressing affordability beyond tax increases. Where is their job-creation agenda?
What’s more, in the most recent elections, middle-class minority voters did not vote for them, so the party must decide whether it is going to welcome communist candidates or keep traditional minority voting blocs. The Democrats seem confused.
Based on this new political alignment, my mother, a lifetime Democrat and civil rights marcher whose brother died in the Korean war fighting against communism, asked me how to register as a Republican. She is 84. Tragic!
