Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton’s mother has filed for temporary custody of his three children after he apparently harmed himself in a livestream in Florida, news outlets report.
Teresita Lavandeira filed for temporary custody of Mr. Hilton’s children — Mario, 13; Mia, 11; and Mayte, 8 — on Friday. Ms. Lavandeira’s attorney told NBC South Florida that she wants to “protect the children” and give them “some sense of normalcy” as they begin healing.
Mr. Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, remains hospitalized more than a week after the TikTok livestream.
His family said in a statement that his recovery would be a “long process” following significant blood loss and additional injuries.
The Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Mr. Hilton was hospitalized late Tuesday after fans called police during the livestream.
A TikTok spokesperson told The Washington Post that the platform’s moderation system flagged the stream within minutes and later banned Mr. Hilton’s account.
Mr. Hilton’s family has asked media to stay away from his Miami home as they focus on his recovery and his children’s well-being.
