Vin Diesel cried over ‘Fast Forever’ script; director hasn’t read it

The screenplay for “Fast Forever” reportedly moved Vin Diesel to tears, but the director set to bring the “Fast & Furious” franchise to a close says he hasn’t seen a page of it.

Vin Diesel, whose real name is Mark Sinclair Vincent, called the script “the best script I have read in decades” in an Instagram post touting the 11th installment of the racing franchise, penned by Michael Lesslie. But director Louis Leterrier, who helmed 2023’s “Fast X” and is attached to return for “Fast Forever,” told Polygon he still hasn’t read the draft while promoting his new Netflix thriller, “The Last House,” according to Variety.

“I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t,” Mr. Leterrier said of the script, adding only that “there will be an ending, and it’s great.”

Mr. Vincent first announced a March 2028 release date for “Fast Forever” earlier this year, though the film was originally expected to enter production not long after “Fast X” premiered in 2023. That film grossed $714 million worldwide and closed on a cliffhanger that brought back Gal Gadot’s Gisele, while a mid-credits scene revealed Dwayne Johnson’s return as Luke Hobbs.

Mr. Lesslie, whose credits include “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” and “Assassin’s Creed,” was announced as the “Fast Forever” writer in March and rewrote an earlier draft by Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean, the latter of whom worked on the story for “Fast X,” Variety reported.

“Fast Forever” is slated for a March 17, 2028, release.
