The Washington Commanders traded for San Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel on Saturday.
In exchange, Washington will send a fifth-round pick to San Francisco in the deal.
The trade is pending a physical.
Commanders general manager Adam Peters is familiar with Samuel after spending several seasons in the 49ers front office. Samuel, 29, requested a trade after the end of last season.
Samuel filled a unique role in San Francisco’s offense, taking snaps at receiver and running back in recent seasons. The 2024 campaign marked a down year for the former All-Pro, as he recorded just 670 receiving yards and 136 rushing yards.
With over $80 million in cap space, the Commanders can easily absorb Samuel’s $21.7 million cap hit.
The trade will not become official until the new league year begins on March 12.
The new addition will pair with Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin and superstar quarterback Jayden Daniels in a Washington offense that ranked among the most efficient in the NFL last season.
