The 81st Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 7 will feature two new award categories — one for cinematic and box office achievement, and one for best performance in stand-up comedy on TV.

A total of eight movies will be nominated for the award for cinematic and box office achievement.

To qualify, a film must gross at least $150 million in box office receipts, at least $100 million of which has to come from U.S. domestic audiences. Alternatively, a film must get an equal amount of streams, as verified by “trusted industry sources,” Golden Globe officials said in a statement.

Nominated movies for the box office category will also be eligible for other category awards, such as the best drama or the best animated film.

Films released after Nov. 22 will still be able to qualify based on projected box office revenue and streaming numbers as verified by industry sources. The Golden Globes did not specify the industry sources in its announcement.

The awards show also explained that, while box office and streaming numbers determine eligibility, the show’s voters will decide which of the highest-grossing movies actually get nominated based on excellence.

“The new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award is more than just rewarding the year’s top-earning and most viewed motion pictures. These films have typically not been recognized among industry awards, but they should be,” Golden Globes Executive Vice President Tim Gray said in a statement.

The stand-up comedy on television award, meanwhile, applies both to individual performances and to those given as part of a troupe or ensemble. The award will have six nominees.

Stand-up comedy performances 30 minutes or longer that are not part of a TV series or made-for-TV movie are eligible. Performances will also have to have debuted on-air or on-demand on a recognized platform in the U.S. during the qualifying calendar year.
