OPINION:
Why have so many people come out in favor of the horrific recent Hamas attacks on Israel, and against the idea of Israel defending itself (“Liberal group urges Biden to call it quits over his response to attack on Israel,” web. Oct. 26)?
The attacks — which included murder, rape, the beheading of infants and the shooting of entire families — were designed to drum up support for Hamas and inflame those opposed to Israeli nationalism. Hamas, by the way, is a terror group that wants to wipe Israel off the world map.
The history of this simmering conflict dates back to a time well before the 1948 establishment of the free and independent modern state of Israel by the United Nations. Most demonstrators have little to no education specific to the complexities of the issues surrounding the latest conflict, yet they demonstrate and talk about it to no good end. If anything, their usually irrational logic does little more than worsen the situation, driving the interested parties even further apart.
Rather than yield to the impulse to be noticed, these people would do far better to pay attention to their own relationships. Leave international wars up to the experts, who themselves are troubled to find answers. It is a shame that the Constitution does not include a prohibition on public stupidity.
