OPINION:
As an American, I am sorry for what is happening in Ukraine and Israel (“Biden declares Putin, Hamas threats to democracy in prime-time speech,” web, Oct. 19).
However, our divided and struggling nation is $32 trillion in debt, has millions of homeless living on its streets, is dealing with extreme inflation and a fentanyl and opioid crisis and has an open border. I am far more worried about these domestic problems, which have been sorely neglected by President Biden.
Intervening in Israel also runs us the risk of widening the conflict and involving Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and even perhaps Egypt, which would cause gas prices to skyrocket and possibly lead to World War III.
We just can’t afford to “save” the world now. Mr. Biden, globalists and the Democrats — not the wars in Ukraine and Israel — are the greatest current threats to our democracy.
Instead of continuing to fund, exacerbate and intervene in deadly wars thousands of miles away, we should be pushing to support peace agreements with the help of other nations.
Americans are too weary of these costly and never-ending wars that do nothing to help America, but only bankrupt us further.
