OPINION:
The Nov. 7 election results were predictable in spite of the hype of GOP candidates (“The GOP’s cash problem: Democrats outspent Republicans in five of six major races on Tuesday,” web, Nov. 9). That said, it was not the candidates’ fault, but the fault of the excessive divisiveness by certain Republican members of Congress.
Their actions — ousting former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, making Steve Scalise withdraw and voting against Jim Jordan — did not bode well for them.
Mr. McCarthy and Mr. Jordan understood the main priority: to gain public support to win the 2024 elections.
They weren’t attempting to pass all the laws they wanted now because they knew those measures would be rejected by the Senate or that President Biden would veto them.
There are a majority of House and Senate Republicans who know this, and hopefully they can make their colleagues work with them. Mr. Biden and the Democrats are destroying our country and Republicans need to get the word out that the Democrats’ open-borders and energy policies and their numerous regulations are killing businesses and the economy.
And let us not forget Mr. Biden’s suppression of free speech, the extent of corruption of the rule of law at his Justice Department and FBI, and his failure to put Hamas and Iran on notice.
