OPINION:
What a wonderful story Sarah Howarth tells in her op-ed (“I left abortion clinic to save my baby and myself,” Web, Feb. 6). Ms. Howarth was in an abortion clinic, ready to have an abortion, but she was torn between the baby’s father wanting her to have the procedure and her family wanting her to place the baby for adoption. Though she was homeless, jobless and far from confident in her ability to raise the child, she miraculously left without aborting her baby and found her way to Bethlehem House, a crisis pregnancy support organization.
Bethlehem House helped Ms. Howarth with parenting and financial classes. When postpartum psychosis hit, Bethlehem House took care of her baby while she received the necessary treatment. The organization continued to help and encourage Ms. Howarth to pay off her debts, finish college and become self-sustaining. Now, five years later, her son, Jude, attends kindergarten at the school where Howarth is a teacher.
Democrats routinely attack crisis pregnancy centers such as Bethlehem House, which do their immense, loving work free of charge. In June 2022, Sen. Mark Warner and 20 other congressional Democrats signed a letter urging Google to “restrict search results showing pro-life pregnancy centers” and calling them “fake clinics” because they don’t kill pre-born babies.
In July 2022, Sen. Elizabeth Warren introduced the Stop Anti-Abortion Disinformation Act to stop crisis pregnancy centers from publicizing how they help women. Later that same month, Democrats blocked a Republican attempt to pass a resolution condemning the violence against pregnancy centers and churches. Republicans passed the resolution in January 2023. However, the Democrats, with one exception, voted against it.
Democrats have demonstrated they are against letting women have a choice to keep their pre-born babies. They are for killing (and the profits it brings) only.
