In “Afghanistan haunts Biden, as it should” (web, April 1), Jed Babbin references a recent comment by National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, who called LGBTQ+ rights a core part of our foreign policy.

Really? The leadership of China, Russia, Iran and North Korea probably care as much about LGBTQ+ rights as they do about the right of any other American, which is to say, not at all.

Mr. Kirby is a brilliant retired Navy admiral who grew up near the tip of the spear of U.S. defense and foreign relations. He should know better. If he does not, he should have resigned before making such a ludicrous suggestion.

I guess having a job may be more important to some people than actually carrying out an oath to the U.S. Constitution.
