Politics is a contact sport and professional politicians, like the Democratic Party’s leading luminaries, have many decades in the sordid trenches (“Democrats out of touch with what most Americans care about,” Web. Nov. 7). However,  the desperate Hail Mary passes slung by party bigwigs — even perspicacious observers of the political scene, such as former presidents Clinton and Obama — have been foolhardy and misleading. They seem to believe most voters cannot connect cause and effect, but they’re wrong.

The idea that a few MAGA Republicans elected to Congress will trigger the “Nazification” of America is preposterous, yet that is what House Majority Whip James Clyburn said just the other day. Our democracy is endangered and diminished when big voices mouth big lies.
