It’s clear that participants in the Jan. 6, 2021, protests at the U.S. Capitol did not understand that laissez-faire attitudes to 574 preceding instances of leftist riots, looting and/or arson established and inspired standards of conduct that applied only to leftists.
Similarly, the Justice Department’s Merrick Garland and the FBI’s Christopher Wray appear more concerned about parents objecting to liberal indoctrination in schools than protesters descending on the homes of conservative Supreme Court justices. However, it is illegal for anyone with the “intent of influencing any judge … pickets or parades … in or near a building or residence occupied or used by such judge.”
Whatever the arguments over free speech and intimidation of the justice system, Mr. Garland and Mr. Wray could charge the perpetrators and see if the Supreme Court would support a statute intended to protect the judicial system and judicial families from intimidation.
