Washington hopes this changes with its new Commanders team name, but in 2021, Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens led the state of Virginia in jersey sales, according to Lids.

Jackson, Baltimore’s dynamic young quarterback, had the most popular individual jersey in Virginia, as well as Maryland and, oddly enough, Maine. Meanwhile, the most popular team jersey in Virginia was the Ravens, ahead of the Washington Football Team. The Ravens also, unsurprisingly, led the state of Maryland.

The charts, posted on Twitter by The Action Network’s Darren Rovell, are just sales by Lids, not other retailers.

When Washington rebranded to the Commanders last week, the response was mixed, but fans did show interest in buying gear. Last Wednesday, when the team officially announced the new name, the Commanders had the top four selling items on Fanatics’ website, accounting for the best day in team history.

On Lids’ list, Tom Brady dominated by leading 18 different states in jersey sales. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led four Midwestern states. Aside from Brady, Mahomes and Jackson, no player led more than two states.
