A Catholic priest has been asked to step down “due to his anti-lockdown rhetoric and criticism of the Democratic Party,” according to The Washington Times (“James Altman, Catholic priest who blasted Dems, lockdowns asked to resign: ‘They want my head,’” Web, May 23). But in the case of Father James Altman of St. James Catholic Church in La Crosse, Wisconsin, his only “crime” is speaking the truth in “a culture that celebrates deception and sin.”
In an era when the preaching of sin, hell and judgment has all but vanished from the pulpit, Father Altman takes exception to the notion that such preaching is out of date and has no relevance in today’s upside-down world. If anything, his refusal to bow the knee to the bishop is commendable.
