NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Democratic Party’s executive committee has elected Hendrell Remus as the new party chairman.
Remus, who will serve a two-year term, is the first Black elected to serve as chairman. He is assistant director of the Tennessee State University Office of Emergency Management.
“I am humbled and elated at the opportunity to serve as the Tennessee Democratic Party Chair,” Remus said in a statement after Saturday’s vote. “This is not just a moment of accomplishment for my family and I but a historic moment for our party and indeed for our state.”
The executive committee also elected Barbara Wagner as vice chair, Pam Weston as secretary and Carol Abney as treasurer.
