Scherff was originally placed on injured reserve on Sept. 23. By being on the list, The three-time Pro Bowler was required to miss a minimum of three weeks as the NFL altered its injured reserve rules for the 2020 season because of the coronavirus pandemic.
With Scherff returning to practice, Washington now has three weeks to activate him back to its active roster — or leave him on IR for the rest of the year. Multiple reports indicated Scherff would miss three to five weeks after the knee injury he suffered in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Scherff could also stand to gain from his return as the 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract.
