CBS Sports reported Sunday that multiple sources within the Washington organization “believe that a trade by the end of month” is likely for the 23-year-old. The report comes days after Washington benched Haskins for Kyle Allen in an attempt to win now.
On Friday, coach Ron Rivera backed Haskins when asked what he wants to see from the young signal-caller over the next few weeks.
“By no means have I given up on him,” Rivera said.
The CBS report, however, paints a picture that Washington‘s coaching staff believes Haskins is not a good fit for offensive coordinator Scott Turner’s system. The team’s staff was also not high on Haskins when the Ohio State product was coming out of the draft in 2019.
Those close to Haskins have advised him that a trade would be the best outcome for his career, CBS reported. The quarterback was demoted to third-string and is inactive for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Haskins will also not be on the sideline as the team sent him home due to the quarterback being sick.
