The Eagles’ 23-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night ensured that Philadelphia going into its bye week will maintain control of first place in the NFC East no matter what the Washington Football Team does Sunday.

If Washington beats the New York Giants this weekend, the team will improve to 3-5 — but the Eagles are still 3-4-1 at their break.

Washington, of course, beat the Eagles to open the season. However, Philadelphia’s Week 3 tie with the Cincinnati Bengals is looming large in the division.

The Eagles, who oddsmakers peg to win the division, enter the bye on a two-game winning streak with wins over New York and Dallas. Washington and Philadelphia are each 2-1 against divisional foes.

Starting Sunday, Washington has a crucial four-game stretch in which every opponent is under .500. After New York, Washington plays the 3-4 Detroit Lions, then hosts the 2-5-1 Bengals before traveling to Dallas for a rematch on Thanksgiving.

By comparison, here are the Eagles’ next four games:

  • Nov. 15: at New York
  • Nov. 22:  Cleveland Browns
  • Nov. 30: Seattle Seahawks
  • Dec. 6: Green Bay Packers
